Michael Burroughs, MPA, BCC


Michael brings 40+ years of  leadership development, coaching, executive management and executive recruiting experience to his diverse clients.  He is a Board Certified Executive/Business/Leadership Coach (BCC) with over 5,000 hours of direct leadership development and performance improvement coaching experience.

Michael has served in a variety of senior level organization development 

positions with healthcare divisions of three Fortune 500 corporations, as well as private companies. He was VP of Organization Development for a national emergency physician and clinical contract services corporation, as well as two healthcare information systems companies. He has provided leadership development support to other physician contract services companies, and to various groups of  healthcare CIOs, both public and private.


His renown physician leadership development program has been delivered to hundreds of physician and nursing leaders from Emergency Department directors to chief medical officers.  This program was accredited for CME by the School of Medicine at Washington University in St Louis, and the Texas College of Emergency Medicine, and also was extended to chief residents at other medical schools, and healthcare CIOs. 


He also has over 15 years of executive recruiting experience, over a decade of which was with a "top ten" global executive search firm, where he served as an EVP and managing director.  Michael has placed executives ranging from medical director to public company CEO in the US, Asia and Europe.


Before entering the private sector, Michael served on active duty for 12 years in the US and abroad as a U.S.  Army Medical Service Corps officer.  In addition to commanding a variety of medical organizations, he led and directed leadership and communication instruction at the U.S. Army Academy of Health Sciences.  He was also a pioneer in the use of smartcard technology in healthcare, now used on a global scale.  Michael resigned from active military service in 1984 and transitioned to the private sector to join a Fortune 100  healthcare information systems company in an executive organization development role.  He accepted a commission in the US Army Reserve when he entered the private sector and later retired at the rank of Colonel.  He has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal and the Legion of Merit.


Michael is an adjunct professor of leadership and business in the graduate business school at Lindenwood University.


He holds a bachelor's degree in English from Middle Tennessee State University and a master's degree in public administration from Clark University.  He is also a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College.
